Google’s research team has just announced three brand new photography apps. The first one being “Storyboard” which is Android only, second “Selfissimo!” (iOS & Android) and last but not least Scrubbies (iOS).  Google hopes that the new applications will give them a way to test out more experimental features to see how users respond.

The trio of apps include a number of different technologies now in development at Google, including; object recognition, person segmentation, stylization algorithms, efficient image encoding, decoding technologies and a whole lot more.

Apps

Storyboard – Turns videos into single page comic book layouts on your device. Simply record a video on your phone and load it into the storyboard app.  The app will then automatically select interesting frames, lays them out for you and applies one of six visual styles.

Selfissimo! –  An automated selfie photographer app that encourages the user to pose. You can start a selfie session with the app by simply tapping the screen and the app will automatically take photos each time you stop moving and pose.

Scrubbies – This iOS only app lets you control the speed and direction of videos. This is great as it allows you to emphasise action or even create cool loops.

This is not the first time Google has launched experimental photography apps. Google has also hinted that these three apps may be the first of many. Will these new features make their way to Google Photos?
