Amazon Plans To Deliver Packages To Your Car Boot! Amazon Plans To Deliver Packages To Your Car Boot!

Last year, Amazon introduced ‘amazon key’ which allows couriers to open people’s front doors and put deliveries inside. Just when we thought Amazon couldn’t get any crazier, they’ve gone and announced a new service this week, which gives courier’s access to a person’s car for the purpose of leaving deliveries inside the boot.

Rather than using smart locks and a cloud-connect camera to gain entry, they plan to use connected technologies embedded in many modern vehicles today. The new service is being launched in partnership with General Motors and Volvo, with plans to roll it out in over 30 major cities in the US.

Facebook has recently been hit with a massive PR crisis due to them violating company policies in its use of personal information. Will Amazon follow suit? Although the tech giant hasn’t suffered any high profile data breaches, it is still a huge risk and is essentially selling people’s privacy for convenience.

“The e-commerce giant knows where its shoppers live and work, what they buy, how often they buy it, credit card information, what music they listen to, what questions they ask the company’s personal assistant, Alexa, what books they’re reading and, on a Kindle, what page they’re on” said David Pierson of Los Angeles Times.

There are obvious security concerns with this new service, however it seems to be future that we are steering towards. On the topic of data and privacy, is your website GDPR compliant? Click here to read more about the upcoming GDPR regulations and how it will affect us all.
