Once again, Mark Zuckerberg shocked us all last week when he announced that the social media giant Facebook would be changing its algorithms. So why the change? Facebook is now aiming to promote more personal content rather than news.
“As we roll this out,” Zuckerberg wrote, “You’ll see less public content like posts from businesses, brands, and media.” What does this mean for brands? Well as the changes roll out over the next few months, businesses will see a massive decrease in organic reach. It is also predicted that users will now spend less time on Facebook.
How will this affect business?
Zuckerberg himself has admitted that businesses are going to have to work harder than ever to gain their customers attention on the platform. So how do you continue to reach customers on Facebook? Well apart from continuing the engaging quality content you will need to increase your ad budget. Organic reach has been declining across social media for years however now it will almost be essential to use Facebook ads.
The changes made by Facebook are likely to improve Instagram’s appeal to brands. Many brands are starting to move towards Facebook’s younger, cooler sister, Instagram. Instagram already has far high engagement rates and would allow brands to reach more people without having to spend any money.
